President
A.E. “Ted” May is President of Andersen Sterilizers, Inc., a North Carolina-based manufacturer designing low-temperature EO sterilizers, and Andersen Scientific, Inc. Ted has more than 25 years of experience in the field of infection control and over 30 years of experience in international business and trade promotion, both with private companies and at the federal and state levels.
Ted serves on a number of medical device industry committees:
- Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) – member, serving on several standards committees:
- Ethylene Oxide Working Group (WG1)
- Hospital EO Sterilizer Working Group (WG62) – Chairman
- ISO Ethylene Oxide Working Group (TC198 WG1) – member of the U.S. delegation and subject matter expert
- Ethylene Oxide Sterilization Association (EOSA) – member
- U.S. Federal International Trade Advisory Committee on medical devices (ITAC3) – vice-chair; co-chair of the Lifesciences Sub-committee
Under Ted’s leadership, Andersen companies have obtained eighteen U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearances. Andersen Scientific was recognized as a finalist in the 2019 FDA Innovation Challenge 2.
Ted received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts degree in international economics and Asian studies from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Ted lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his wife, Elizabeth, and two sons.
